Mr. and Mrs. Clinton could also taste the Hungarian-American apple pie

The Office of the Chief of Protocol of the State Department launched this year a July 4th “Apple Pie Contest” (APC) where chefs of the Diplomatic Corps could compete. Our Chef, Viktor Merényi was among the best of the bests, again!

The U.S. State Department organized a marvelous Independence Day celebration with representatives from the diplomatic community and chief of protocols all around the world. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former president Bill Clinton made an unexpected appearance at the Fourth of July event.

As American as…almás pite

We are proud to announce the culinary victory of our Viktor, Chef Merényi, who won the 3rd price with his apple pie creation that combines tradition with new ideas and Hungarian flavors.

Fifteen Embassies participated at the APC, where apple pie creations were judged by State Department executive chef Christopher James, Alli Blakely, co-owner of Pie Sisters in Georgetown and Patrick Kennedy, undersecretary of State for Management.

This was not the first success for Chef Merényi this year. A few months ago, he received the Grand Pineapple for winning the Embassy Chef Challenge, the DC-wide competition of embassy chefs.
